CAIRO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Wednesday urged to contain regional escalation, starting from halting Israeli killings in the Gaza Strip, the AL said in a statement.
His remarks came during a meeting with Patrick Gauchat, the head of mission and chief of staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, which is responsible for field supervision of truce agreements among Israel and its neighbors.
The AL chief warned that the recent escalation could spiral out of the control of concerned parties and threaten security in the entire region, the statement said.
"Containing the continuous and dangerous deteriorated security situation begins with putting an end to the daily massacre committed by Israel in Gaza," he added.
The pan-Arab body chair reiterated that political solutions remain the best way to achieve peace for all parties. ■
