KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's aviation authorities issued a warning on Thursday over ash clouds resulting from a volcanic eruption in Indonesia.

The eruption of Indonesia's Mount Ruang has resulted in the formation of ash clouds moving towards the Kota Kinabalu Flight Information Regions (FIR), posing a risk to aircraft safety in the airspace, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) in a statement.

CAAM Chief Executive Officer Norazman Mahmud advised airlines and aircraft operators to continuously monitor meteorological updates, advisories and information related to volcanic ash issued by the authorities.

"All aviation stakeholders need to remain vigilant, exercise caution and implement appropriate measures to mitigate the potential impact of volcanic ash on flight operations," he said.

Mount Ruang, in Indonesia's North Sulawesi province, has been active for several days, spewing lava and ash clouds.
