JERUSALEM, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Israeli basketball club Hapoel Tel Aviv on Thursday announced that swingman Dez Wells has left Israel and will no longer be part of the team this season.

The 32-year-old American joined Hapoel in December 2023, after spending more than four years in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), where he played for the Zhejiang Lions, Jiangsu Dragons, Qingdao Eagles, and Jilin Northeast Tigers.

He played 10 games in the Israeli Super League, in which Hapoel is currently ranked second, averaging 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.

In the EuroCup tournament, in which Hapoel reached the quarterfinals, Wells averaged 12 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

Wells' leaving came a day after the Hapoel point guard Will Cummings also left the team, due to the security situation in Israel.

On Wednesday, Hapoel appointed Greek Stefanos Dedas as head coach in place of Israeli Danny Franco, who had been dismissed earlier this month.
