AMMAN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed on Tuesday that the security and sovereignty of Jordan are above all considerations, said a Royal Hashemite Court statement.

During a meeting with dignitaries and representatives from the Mafraq Governorate, the king stressed that Jordan will not be a battleground for any party while shedding light on regional developments.

He also addressed the extent to which the Mafraq Governorate has been affected by the refugee crisis, expressing his confidence in the ability of Jordanians to turn challenges into opportunities. The governorate houses the world's largest camp for Syrian refugees.

The Jordanian cabinet announced on Sunday that the country's armed forces intercepted Iranian drones that entered Jordan's airspace en route to Israel. Debris fell in multiple locations, but there were no reports of significant damage or injuries among citizens.

Iran launched late Saturday night a massive attack on Israel in retaliation for the latter country's strike on Iran's diplomatic premises in Syria, with hundreds of drones traversing the skies of Iraq, Syria and Jordan toward Israel.
