AMMAN, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday summoned the Iranian ambassador in Amman to warn against Tehran's "questioning of Jordan's position," after the kingdom intercepted Iranian drones and missiles aimed at Israel last night.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told the state-owned Al Mamlaka TV that any missile entering Jordanian airspace would be met with a response to safeguard against damage and threats to Jordanians.

"Iran's issue lies with Israel, not Jordan, and neither Iran nor anyone else can challenge what Jordan does, what it offers, and what it has done for Palestine historically," Safadi said, accusing Iranian media, including the official Iranian news agency, of publishing offensive statements.

Safadi said the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip could escalate tensions regionally, potentially sparking a wider war.

"Jordan does not want a conflict with anyone, certainly not with Iran, and we want good relations with Iran," he noted.

He said the current challenge for Jordan is to prevent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government from using the Iranian attack as a pretext for continuing aggression against Gaza.

The Jordanian cabinet announced on Sunday that the country's armed forces intercepted drones that entered Jordan's airspace. Debris fell in multiple locations, but there were no reports of significant damage or injuries among citizens.
