BEIRUT, April 14 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese civilian was killed, and five others injured early Sunday morning in Israeli air strikes on a village in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.
The military sources told Xinhua that the Israeli airstrikes on the southeastern village of Khiam also led to the destruction of three houses and damage to 13 others.
According to the sources, Israel carried out 10 air strikes on seven border towns and villages in the eastern and central sectors, and fired 50 shells on 12 towns and villages in the eastern, central, and western sectors of the border region in southern Lebanon.
It said the raids also targeted Hezbollah sites in the Jabal Safi area, while Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli sites.
The sources also told Xinhua that they monitored the launching of about 45 surface-to-surface missiles from Lebanon at northern Israel, some of which were responded by Israeli Iron Dome missiles.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. In response, Israel retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. ■
