ADEN, Yemen, April 12 (Xinhua) -- At least three pro-government Yemeni soldiers were killed in a drone attack by the Houthi group in Yemen's southern province of Lahj on Friday, a military official told Xinhua.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the Houthis targeted a military patrol with a drone on the Karsh front in the province, an area that has witnessed sporadic fighting between the two warring sides.
On Tuesday, Yemen's Prime Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak accused the Houthis of killing over 300 Yemeni people in the past three months.
"We are sustaining daily losses in this battle. Mere days ago, more than 13 soldiers died in the Karsh front of Lahj province," Bin Mubarak said, stressing that Yemen remains in a state of war with the Houthis.
Yemen has stayed in a precarious calm since the expiration of a UN-brokered truce on Oct. 2, 2022, after the Yemeni government and the Houthi group had disagreed on an extension.
As the prospects for a peaceful resolution to the years-long conflict continue to fade, concerns mount over the potential for a full-scale resumption of hostilities and further deterioration of the already dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
Yemen has been embroiled in a protracted civil conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sanaa. In 2015, a Saudi-led military coalition intervened in an attempt to restore the government.
Despite diplomatic endeavors over the years, neither side has demonstrated the will to revive negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict, which, according to UN estimates, has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and pushed millions more to the brink of famine. ■
