RAMALLAH, April 12 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed and 18 others wounded by Israeli gunfire during an incursion by the Israeli army and settlers into the village of Al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah city in the central West Bank, said Palestinian sources on Friday.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a press statement sent to Xinhua that the young man succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head at the hospital.
It added that 18 Palestinians sustained injuries of varying degrees and were taken to the hospital in Ramallah.
Meanwhile, Amin Abu Aliya, head of the Al-Mughayyir village council, said groups of Israeli settlers, estimated to be in the hundreds, raided the village alongside the army, assaulting residents and vandalizing properties.
According to Aliya, the army besieged the village and closed its entrances while settlers set fire to several civilian homes and vehicles.
The incident brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since Oct. 7 last year to 463 in the West Bank and Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. ■
