AMRITSAR, India, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The air was full of festive cheer as people celebrated the Baisakhi festival in Amritsar district of India's northern Punjab state.

The festival is seen as a spring harvest celebration primarily in Punjab and Northern India. Further, other Indian cultures and diaspora celebrate this festival too. In many parts of India, Baisakhi is also the date for the Indian Solar New Year.
