BENGALURU, India, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The tradition to deck out with fresh flowers and garlands to celebrate the Hindu New Year's Day of Ugadi has brought brisk business for flower vendors at a wholesale market in India's Bengaluru, capital of the Karnataka state. People also carefully select mango and neem leaves to mark the auspicious occasion.

Ugadi meaning "beginning of the year" marks the first day of a new year in the lunisolar Hindu calendar. The festival is celebrated in India's southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Goa. This year it falls on April 9.
