SINGAPORE, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean authority caught over 2,200 individuals for possession or use of e-cigarettes in the first quarter, according to a report issued by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Tuesday.

The HSA added that it seized e-cigarettes and components worth 7 million Singapore dollars (5.2 million U.S. dollars) in the first three months of this year.

The report showed that 7,838 persons were caught for the possession or use of e-cigarettes in Singapore last year, a 60 percent increase from 2022.

The HSA noted that e-cigarettes contain harmful chemicals such as fine particulate matter and cancer-causing agents. The possession, use, or purchase of e-cigarettes carries a maximum fine of 2,000 Singapore dollars.
