TEHRAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid urged unity among Muslim nations on Tuesday to halt Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip and protect Palestinian rights.

During a phone conversation, Raisi voiced frustration with the failure of the global community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to address the situation in Gaza effectively.

Raisi emphasized the urgent need for concerted efforts, especially within the Muslim world, to end the crisis in Gaza, highlighting the conflict as a critical concern for Iran, Iraq, and the broader Muslim community and stressing a significant "religious and humanitarian duty" to cease Israeli aggression.

Furthermore, Raisi called for strengthening Iran-Iraq relations, citing the two countries' shared cultural and historical ties, and expressed hope for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the coming months, despite external adversities.

The Iraqi president echoed these sentiments, lamenting the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza and the ineffectiveness of international measures to stop them.

Rashid advocated for a strategic approach by Muslim countries to address the Palestinian issue at its core and ensure the protection of Palestinian rights.

He characterized the Baghdad-Tehran relationship as robust and beneficial for both nations, underscoring the Iraqi government's commitment to advancing these ties, regardless of external detractors.
