BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.72 percent to 3,047.05 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.57 percent lower at 9,394.61 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 931.35 billion yuan (about 131.27 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 917.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in sectors such as the internet e-commerce saw broad declines, while stocks related to electricity generation as well as hospitality led the gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.81 percent to close at 1,807.05 points. ■
