MOSCOW, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The recent shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP) was "a very dangerous provocation" with negative consequences, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

The spokesperson noted that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) employees who were on the spot witnessed these attacks.

"This is a very dangerous practice that has very bad, negative consequences in the future," Peskov said.

Zaporizhzhia NPP reported multiple Ukrainian drone attacks on Sunday. One of the attacks injured three people working at the plant, according to the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.

Rafael Grossi, head of the IAEA, called for measures to avoid any actions that could threaten the nuclear power plant on his social media account.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and includes six power units with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts. At the end of February 2022, the facility was taken under Russian control.
