MEXICO CITY, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Club America missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of Mexico's Liga MX Clausura standings on Saturday as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Santos Laguna.

Teenage forward Stephano Carrillo gave the hosts the lead on the hour before Alejandro Zendejas equalized 14 minutes from time.

The result leaves Santos Laguna 12th in the 18-team standings, five points shy of 10th-placed Pumas UNAM with three match days remaining.

The top 10 teams will advance to the playoffs in May.

America, meanwhile, remain leaders with 29 points from 14 games, a point ahead of second-placed Monterrey.

"It's a mix of frustration and annoyance because of our missed chances," America manager Andre Jardine told reporters.

"We were dominant and were always closer to winning it than losing it. We should have done better."

Santos Laguna manager, Ignacio Ambriz, remained upbeat despite his side's facing playoff hopes.

"I believe that a point is still valuable," Ambriz said after the match. "But unfortunately we no longer have margin for error and our results are going to have to improve if we want to advance.

"We have to keep working as hard as we can and we're already starting to prepare for our next match against Necaxa [on April 12]."

In other Liga MX fixtures on Saturday, Queretaro won 2-0 at Leon, Pachuca prevailed 3-0 at Tigres UANL, Guadalajara won 3-2 at home to Puebla and Cruz Azul edged to a 2-1 home win over Monterrey.
