BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- In March 1959, democratic reform swept through Xizang, abolishing the feudal serfdom under theocracy in old Xizang. Over the past 65 years, Xizang has progressed from poverty to prosperity and from autocracy to democracy.
The democratic reform freed a million serfs in Xizang, marking a historic leap in the social system. Today, a new socialist Xizang with social stability, ethnic unity, religious harmony, economic prosperity, improved people's livelihood, sound ecology, and consolidated borders is standing high on the "roof of the world."
