BEIRUT, April 3 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah fighter was killed and two civilians wounded on Wednesday in Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The military sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said casualties were caused by Israeli air strikes in three villages in the eastern and central regions. The strikes also resulted in the destruction of five houses and damage to 30 others.

The sources said that Civil Defense members were clearing the rubble in the targeted villages of Aita al-Shaab, Yarine, and Kafr Kila, and transporting the casualties to the hospital.

Hezbollah reported that its fighters attacked Israeli sites in Ruwaisat al-Alam, al-Samaqa, al-Malikiyah, Khallet Wardah, Branit, and Misgav Am.

The military sources said they monitored the launch of approximately 70 surface-to-surface missiles from Lebanon towards northern Israel, with some of them being intercepted by Israeli Iron Dome missiles.

The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tension since Oct. 8, 2023, after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 398 people on the Lebanese side, including 257 Hezbollah members and 73 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
