HOHHOT, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Starting from 8 a.m. Monday, the border port of Erenhot in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has begun 24-hour operation of customs clearance of its freight transport, which will last for six months, said the port.

The practice also makes Erenhot become China's first land port to launch 24-hour freight transport customs clearance services for Mongolia.

Erenhot Port is the largest land port between China and Mongolia, which handles over 70 percent of the daily necessities transported by road between China and Mongolia.

The import goods are mainly animal products, and the exports are mainly commodities such as daily necessities, household appliances, auto parts and fresh fruits and vegetables, said the port.

According to the port's border inspection station, in the first three months of this year, Erenhot Port handled about 119,000 vehicles entering or leaving China, up 250 percent year on year, while more than 460,000 inbound and outbound visitors were recorded, with a nearly 200-percent year-on-year growth.
