NAIROBI, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will experience enhanced rainfall between April and May that would lead to massive flooding and displacement, the country's meteorologists have warned.

Areas that would receive heavy rainfall include coastal, northern, western and central highlights where Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is located and eastern parts of the country, the Kenya Meteorological Department said in its latest forecast released Monday evening.

David Gikungu, director of the Kenya Meteorological Department, advised residents in all the mentioned areas to be on the lookout for potential floods and flash floods.

"Residents are advised to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes," Gikungu said in the advisory.

He said gusty winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages.

At least seven people were killed and several others displaced in March after heavy downpours hit Nairobi.
