PHNOM PENH, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodia-ASEAN Business Summit 2024 was held here on Tuesday, aiming at unlocking the enormous potential of the 10-nation bloc.
Under the theme "Unleashing ASEAN's Potential: Connectivity, Technology, and Inclusive Growth," the one-day summit brought together dozens of key business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the summit, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the summit served as a catalyst for enhancing business cooperation, as well as strengthening ties between ASEAN member states and global partners.
"The business summit remains essential for stimulating intra-regional investment, showcasing ASEAN's economic dynamism to the global community and underscoring our interconnectedness within the global economy," he said.
"To realize ASEAN's full potential, we must leverage our good infrastructure, connectivity, free trade agreements, skilled workforce, and dynamic markets to solidify ASEAN as a compelling trade partner and investment hub," he said.
He said that reliable and cost-effective energy has also played a crucial role in fostering economic expansion in the region.
Kith Meng, president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said the summit promoted stronger business relationships across ASEAN countries.
"This business summit represents a key moment in unlocking economic potential between Cambodia and other ASEAN countries," he said.
"Our vision for the Cambodia-ASEAN Business Summit 2024 is for regional collaboration and connectivity to make Cambodia the beating heart of ASEAN's economic engine," he added.
ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ■
