AMMAN, April 2 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday stressed the necessity of halting the Israeli military actions on the Gaza Strip, protecting civilians, and increasing humanitarian and medical aid to the Palestinian enclave.

The King made the remarks when meeting in Amman with visiting Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The meeting addressed the critical situation in Gaza and the efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the Royal Hashemite Court said in a statement.

King Abdullah commended Spain's efforts in promoting a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as its proactive and swift response to humanitarian assistance, including air drops of aid.

He reiterated the importance of continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and enabling it to provide service under international mandate, especially in light of the dire situation in Gaza.

The King reaffirmed that there could be no peace and stability in the region without a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.
