BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.08 percent to 3,074.96 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.62 percent lower at 9,586.95 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 967.64 billion yuan (about 136.37 billion U.S. dollars), down from 999.34 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Stocks related to ceramic, as well as pesticides and fertilizers led the gains, while stocks related to the media and entertainment and development zones saw broad declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.62 percent to close at 1,860.49 points Tuesday. ■
