HANOI, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's police cracked down on more than 1.03 million traffic violations including 275,130 drunk driving cases in the first quarter of this year, local media reported Monday, citing the country's Traffic Police Department.
Traffic violations were recorded the most on roads with more than 1.02 million violations, followed by waterways with 10,479 cases.
There were 6,550 traffic accidents nationwide in the first three months of this year, killing 2,723 people and injuring 5,246 others.
The fatality rate due to traffic accidents declined by 484 people compared to the same period last year, according to the police.
The police said in 2024, they would focus on curbing driving under alcohol and drug influence, oversized and overloaded vehicles, vehicles with expired registration, and drivers using fake traveling documents. ■
