BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China secures Paris women's epee berth with World Cup silver
China secured a women's epee team berth as well as three individual spots at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after winning a silver medal at the FIE Women's Epee World Cup in Nanjing on March 24.
Consisting of Tokyo Olympic champion Sun Yiwen and three youngsters Tang Junyao, Yu Sihan and Xu Nuo, China lost to Italy in the final, but the silver medal was enough for China to grab the last Asia and Oceania quota place, and the three members in China's Paris Olympic squad will also be able to compete in the individual event.
2. China crushes Singapore 4-1 in FIFA World Cup qualifier
Wu Lei contributed two goals and one assist as China beat Singapore 4-1 at home in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers second stage on March 26.
In a full stadium of 42,977 spectators in Tianjin, Wu broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, but Singapore leveled the score through Faris Ramli one minute later.
Fei Nanduo converted a penalty in the 65th minute to put China ahead again. Wu scored his second in the 85th minute before assisting Wei Shihao to secure the victory five minutes later.
With the win, China moved up to second in the group with seven points, three points behind leader South Korea.
3. He refreshes China's national record at Wuxi Marathon
China's marathon runner He Jie improved the national record to 2:06:57 at the Wuxi Marathon on March 24.
This marked the third time in a year that the national record was shattered. He had improved the record by 46 seconds at last year's Wuxi Marathon, before Yang Shaohui cut another 21 seconds off it at the Fukuoka International Marathon last December.
4. China wins four golds at diving World Cup in Berlin
Chinese divers took home four of the nine gold medals on offer at the diving World Cup in Berlin which concluded on March 24.
Wang Zongyuan and Chen Yiwen won the men's and women's 3m springboard respectively, while Lian Junjie and Quan Hongchan triumphed in the respective men's and women's 10m platform events.
Britain was second on the medal tally with three golds, while the United States ranked third with two.
5. 12 Olympic champs confirm participation in World Athletics Diamond League in Xiamen
Twelve Olympic gold medalists and 27 world champions, with seven among them winning both prestigious events, have confirmed their participation in April's World Athletics Diamond League in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province, the organizers announced on March 28.
The newly released list of participants included men's pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis, women's 1,500m Olympic and world champion Faith Kipyegon, men's 100m world champion Yohan Blake, women's shot put world champion Chase Ealey, and women's 100m hurdles Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
As the season-opening event of the Diamond League, the Xiamen stop will be held at the Egret Stadium on April 20. ■
