RIYADH, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has launched its strategic vision for regional security in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, said the GCC General Secretariat in a statement on Friday.
The vision highlights the coordination of positions among the GCC countries towards regional and international issues and the member states' unified and common positions based on the GCC charter and the principles of international law that govern relations between states.
It also emphasizes that, in line with the GCC charter and within the framework of the joint defense agreement, the security of each GCC state is interconnected, especially in light of the instability witnessed by the region and the world.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stated that the vision for regional security is not just a political commitment but a moral responsibility toward unity. He added that "our common security is the foundation upon which we build our hopes and dreams for a better future."
"In the GCC, we believe that dialogue, cooperation, coordination, and respect for different perspectives are fundamental and solid shields to face all challenges," Albudaiwi stressed.
Senior officials from GCC states' foreign ministries, diplomats, and experts in related fields attended the launch ceremony of the vision on Thursday. ■
