ULAN BATOR, March 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 vehicles crashed near Mongolia's capital due to heavy snow on Wednesday morning, according to the country's Traffic Police Department.
The pileup occurred at a highway connecting Ulan Bator and Chinggis Khaan International Airport, 52 km south of the capital city, in the central Mongolian province of Tuv, the police said in a statement. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries.
Snow, blizzards, and dust storms have been hitting large parts of Mongolia since Tuesday evening. The unstable weather conditions are expected to continue through the weekend across Mongolia, said the country's weather monitoring agency.
Mongolia has a harsh continental climate as strong winds, snow, and dust storms are common in spring. ■
