MOSCOW, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Ebeko volcano spewed ash to a height of 3,000 meters into the atmosphere, a Russian research institute said Wednesday.

"The ash emission reached approximately 3,000 meters above sea level," said the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the federal research center Unified Geological Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The 1,156-meter Ebeko volcano is located on Russia's Kuril Island of Paramushir. Regular emissions, ranging from weak to moderate, have been ongoing since Oct. 20, 2016, which are considered normal for the volcano.

The record emission occurred on Aug. 31, 2018, when a smoke column surged to a height of 6,000 meters from a new vent that formed in 2017.
