SOFIA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs officers in the port city of Burgas have seized 170 kg of cocaine concealed among bananas, authorities said on Tuesday.
The cocaine, divided into 150 packets, represents the largest volume of the illicit drug ever intercepted at the Burgas port. The contraband was discovered on Monday within a container of bananas delivered by ship to the port, according to the National Customs Agency (NCA).
The ship originated in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil and made stops in Panama, Malta and Italy before reaching Bulgaria, the NCA confirmed.
Authorities estimated the value of the cocaine on the black market to be approximately 6.8 million U.S. dollars.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. ■
