BEIRUT, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and nine other civilians sustained injuries on Tuesday in Israeli airstrikes on several towns and villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources said.

The military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that four successive raids hit three houses in the southeastern village of Mays al-Jabal, resulting in the death of a Hezbollah fighter and a Palestinian while also injuring five other civilians.

Another airstrike targeted two houses in the southwestern village of Tayr Harfa, destroying them and damaging a center of the Resala Health Ambulance Association while injuring four of its members, according to the sources.

The sources noted that an Israeli raid also struck a power plant near the southeastern village of Adaysseh, which led to a power outage in many border villages and towns.

The sources reported that Israeli forces fired 60 shells at 15 border towns and villages, destroying six homes and damaging 30 others.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced that it had launched attacks on several Israeli sites in response.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. In response, Israel retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 369 people on the Lebanese side, including 242 Hezbollah members and 73 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
