HONG KONG, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The inaugural One Earth Summit was held on Monday in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) as the first of a series of international financial events to ensue this week.

Organized by the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, a Hong Kong-based sustainability research and education institute, the summit seeks to leverage Hong Kong's prominence as a financial and innovation hub to foster an ecosystem of public-private-philanthropic partnerships dedicated to driving sustainability progress.

"Hong Kong has long been a leading global financial center. In recent years, we have also placed high priority on combating climate change, promoting sustainability, embracing a green economy and building collaboration, worldwide, in these critical areas," said HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee while addressing the summit.

Lee said Hong Kong will sustain its issuance of green bonds, extend green debt support to transition products, promote green fintech, and assist companies and financial institutions in sustainability reporting.

This summit aims to set science-based targets and mobilize all the necessary capital to empower innovative solutions, said Poman Lo, founder of the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, adding that the summit will become an annual gathering.
