JAKARTA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 jolted off East Nusa Tenggara province in central Indonesia on Sunday, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The earthquake rocked at 10:04 a.m. Jakarta time (0304 GMT) with its epicenter located 128 km southeast of Ende Regency and a depth of 41 km under the seabed, the agency said. It earlier issued the magnitude of the quake at 6.1 before revising it.

The intensity of the quake was felt at IV MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) in Ende regency, and III to IV MMI in Waingapu town and Flores Timur regency, it added.

The agency did not issue a tsunami warning as the tremors would not potentially trigger giant waves.

Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone, called the "Pacific Ring of Fire," making the country prone to earthquakes.
