NEW DELHI, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government has further extended the ban on the export of onions until further orders, officials said Saturday.
Previously, it was prohibited until March 31 this year.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on Friday evening, the ban on the export of onions valid till the end of March is extended until further orders.
The move is intended to increase the availability of onions on the domestic market and keep their prices under check.
The export of onions was initially banned in December 2023. ■
