Many years ago, Russian girl Maria was entranced by black-headed gulls in her Siberian hometown. Now, she goes to Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, to meet these beautiful migratory birds which have flown over the ice fields.
Thanks to China's continuous efforts to protect black-headed gulls, for more than 30 years, the migratory birds have been visiting Kunming, nestled amidst the embrace of mountains and graced by the shimmering Dianchi Lake on the other.
Here, what's unfolding before Maria's eyes is a beautiful picture of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, which reflects the unique ecological outlook of Chinese modernization.
