ISTANBUL, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Two workers died in a ground collapse incident Thursday at a rail construction site in northwestern Türkiye, the local Ihlas news agency said.
The collapse occurred during a bored pile construction, trapping the workers in an underground cavity, said the report.
Fire brigades and search and rescue teams recovered their bodies following a two-hour rescue operation, according to the agency.
Police units took extensive security measures in the area, warning against the possibility of a second collapse, according to the report.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
The 229-km-long high-speed railway project aims to establish a connection between Istanbul and the Kapikule border gate with Bulgaria. ■
