KAMPALA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has made changes in both Cabinet and army, dismissing the defense minister and replacing the army commander.

Museveni, through his social media handle on X, formerly Twitter, said late Thursday that he had replaced Defense Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja with Jacob Marksons Oboth, while Chief of Defense Forces Wilson Mbadi was replaced with Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni's son. Kainerugaba will be deputized by Samuel Okiding.

The president also appointed a new joint chief of staff, dropped two ministers in charge of the northeastern region of Karamoja who are currently accused of corruption, and appointed two young ministers who have been regional mobilizers for his son's pressure group, the Patriotic League of Uganda.

The new Cabinet list will be sent to the parliament for vetting before they can be sworn in.
