ACCRA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria late Wednesday clinched the gold medal in the men's 4x100m relay at the 13th African Games in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

On a day that looked like their country's day of glory, the Nigerian quartet finished the race in 38.41 seconds to snatch the gold from Ghana, who won it in Morocco in 2019.

Ghana came in second with a time of 38.43 seconds to receive the silver, as fellow West African country Liberia grabbed bronze, finishing in 38.73 seconds.

"Ghana beat us five years ago in Morocco, and I can not endure another defeat from Ghana, so I was even ready to pull a hamstring so that we could beat them, and that is what happened," Nigerian sprinter Alaba Akintola told Xinhua.

His teammate Usheoritse Itsekiri said it felt great to avenge the 2019 defeat at the hands of Ghana.

On the same night, the Nigerian female quartet also picked up the gold medal in the women's 4x100 meters relay at the same venue.
