China's women's basketball team will face Spain, Serbia and Puerto Rico in Group A at this summer's Paris Olympics.
MIES, Switzerland, March 20 (Xinhua) -- China, the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup runner-up, has been drawn into Group A with Spain, Serbia and Puerto Rico at this summer's Paris Olympics.
According to the draw held by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) here on Tuesday, the defending champion USA will face Tokyo Olympic Games runner-up Japan in Group C alongside European champion Belgium and Germany.
Host nation France is in Group B with Australia, Canada and Nigeria.
The top two of each group and the best two third finishers will enter the quarterfinals.
China will take on Spain on July 29, Serbia on August 1 and Puerto Rico on August 4.
In the men's competition, reigning champion USA has been drawn into Group C with Serbia, South Sudan and the winner in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Puerto Rico.
Four of the 12 teams participating in the Paris 2024 men's basketball tournament have not been decided until the four OQTs, which will take place in Greece, Latvia, Puerto Rico and Spain, from July 2-7.
Winners of OQTs in Greece and Spain will be in Group A alongside Australia and Canada, while France is in Group B with Germany, Japan and OQT winner in Latvia.
The group stage matches will be played in Lille, and the final phase will be in Paris. ■
