KABUL, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Afghan Acting Minister for Education Mawlawi Habibullah Agha on Wednesday said both religious and modern education are vital for the progress of society and called for providing quality education services across Afghanistan as the new academic year starts in the country.
"Getting quality religious and modern education is essential, and the only way to get rid of dependence on foreigners is the promotion of religious and modern knowledge in society," the state-run Bakhtar News Agency quoted Agha as saying.
Afghanistan's new academic year started on March 20, which is also the first day of the Afghan new year, the year of 1403 in Persian calendar. ■
