SINGAPORE, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will complete a new square by 2027 to commemorate its national service policy, according to a statement issued by the country's Defense Ministry.
Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the NS Square on Tuesday and stressed the importance of national service in safeguarding the peace and prosperity of Singapore.
The square will stage large-scale national and public events, such as the National Day Parade, performances and sporting activities.
It is set against the signature Marina Bay, with a seating capacity of about 30,000 people. ■
