VLADIVOSTOK, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Rescue work is underway to clear the transport slope and restore communications following a rockslide on Monday night that trapped 13 people at the mine in Russia's Far East region, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The accident happened in the Zeya district in the Amur Oblast of Russia's Far East. Efforts to clear the slope and reestablish communication with the trapped miners are underway, said Ilona Sysolyatina, head of the Zeya district.

"Twenty-five specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and 4 units of equipment are involved at the site of the rock collapse," Sysolyatina wrote on her social media channel.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has confirmed that mine rescuers from the neighboring Yakutia Republic have reached the site. Additionally, a Mi-8 helicopter carrying 13 rescuers has been dispatched from the Khabarovsk Territory to Amur Oblast.
