AMMAN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday warned that the ongoing conflict in Gaza will have catastrophic repercussions on the entire region.
The king made the remarks at a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on Monday during which he called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip through all possible means, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
The Jordanian king praised Brazil for its rejection of the conflict and continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
The king also commended Brazil's advocacy for the two-state solution, adding that a fair resolution to the Palestinian issue is indispensable for peace and stability in the region.
Discussions at the meeting also covered the bilateral ties between the two sides and means of bolstering cooperation in various fields, especially in economic sectors, according to the statement. ■
