CAIRO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Monday reaffirmed its firm support in addressing the crisis in Sudan as an internal affair, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made the remarks during a meeting in the capital Cairo with the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello, who visited Egypt as part of his first regional tour since his appointment.
The Egyptian top diplomat highlighted the importance of "addressing the conflict in Sudan as a purely Sudanese matter" and vowed Egypt's rejection of interference from "external parties" in the crisis.
Both parties stressed the need for more consultations and coordination to assist Sudan in navigating its current challenges, the statement added.
Sudan has been mired in deadly clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 15, 2023. Recent estimates by the UN suggest that more than 13,000 lives have been lost since the outbreak of violence. ■
