ISLAMABAD, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Seven military personnel, including a couple of officials, and six terrorists were killed on Saturday when terrorists attacked a security forces' post in North Waziristan district in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a military statement said.
The attack was carried out by six terrorists in Mir Ali area of the district during the early hours, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement in the afternoon.
"As own troops foiled the initial attempt of intrusion, the terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by multiple suicide bombing attacks, which led to the collapse of a portion of a building," resulting in the killing of five soldiers, the ISPR added.
During the ensuing clearance operation, the terrorists were effectively engaged by the troops, the ISPR said, adding that all of the terrorists were killed in the operation.
However, during an intense exchange of fire, a lieutenant colonel and another officer of the government troops had also lost their lives, said the statement.
Clearance operations were being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area, according to the ISPR. ■
