BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.54 percent to 3,054.64 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.6 percent higher at 9,612.75 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 944.6 billion yuan (about 133.1 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.01 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the non-ferrous metals sector led the gains, while coal shares suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.06 percent to close at 1,884.09 points on Friday. ■
