BEIRUT, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A Hamas official and a Syrian national were killed, and two other civilians were injured in an Israeli raid on the southwestern Lebanese city of Tyre on Wednesday, Lebanese military sources said.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Hadi Ali Mohammad Mustafa, a Hamas official from the Rashidieh camp near Tyre, was killed inside a car. The second victim, a Syrian national passing through the area during the raid, succumbed to his wounds after being transported to the hospital.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have been on the rise since Oct. 8, 2023, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. ■
