BISHKEK, March 11 (Xinhua) -- This year's measles situation in Kyrgyzstan remains tense, with 4,855 cases having been registered by March 5, the country's health ministry said Monday.
The circulation of the virus is active in the capital of Bishkek and the Chui region, as well as in the Jalal-Abad and Osh regions, the ministry said in a report.
In response, the country has conducted training for health workers since March 4 in preparation for the second stage of the supplementary immunization campaign against measles and rubella, said the report.
"The training will help medical workers build proper communication with the population, especially with the parents of children among whom immunization will be carried out," it said.
The large number of refusals from routine immunization against measles and rubella remains the main reason for the increase in morbidity, according to earlier reports. ■
