BAGHDAD, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Two paramilitary fighters from a local tribal force affiliated with the Iraqi Hashd Shaabi forces were killed and four others wounded on Friday in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a police officer said.
The bomb, which was planted by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, was detonated near a vehicle carrying the fighters who were on patrol in a desert area near the town of Rawa, some 300 km northwest of Baghdad, said Mohammed Adnan, a police officer in Anbar province.
The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of the IS in 2017. However, IS remnants have sneaked into urban centers, deserts, and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians. ■
