WASHINGTON, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Luis Suarez struck late as Inter Miami recovered from two goals down to earn a 2-2 away draw with Nashville in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 tie on Thursday.
Jacob Shaffelburg gave the hosts the lead in the fourth minute when he capitalized on lax defending to lash home from 12 yards after Shaq Moore's pass.
Canadian winger Shaffelburg doubled the advantage just after halftime as he found space on the edge of the 18-yard box and curled a shot into the far corner.
Inter Miami reduced the deficit six minutes later through Lionel Messi, who received Suarez's pass before drilling a low finish past goalkeeper Joe Willis from outside the penalty box.
Suarez equalized with a close-range header following a Sergio Busquets cross.
The return leg will be played at Inter Miami's Chase stadium in Fort Lauderdale on March 13.
In Wednesday's other Champions Cup round of 16 first-leg clash, a first-half strike from Brandon Vazquez gave Mexican side Monterrey a 1-0 away win over Cincinnati. ■
