BEIRUT, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah fighter was killed and three civilians wounded on Thursday in Israeli air strikes targeting a house in the southern village of Aitaroun in Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that members of the Civil Defense equipped with bulldozers, cranes, and ambulances rushed to the scene to remove the rubble and transport the casualties to hospitals.
The sources added that Israel carried out 11 air strikes on seven towns and villages in southern Lebanon and fired 45 shells on 12 towns and villages in the south, leading to the destruction of around 11 houses.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said its fighters targeted the Afdoun settlement in northern occupied Palestine with missiles, in addition to bombing a new headquarters for the Zionist military command with artillery shells.
The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tension since Oct. 8, 2023, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 342 people on the Lebanese side, according to Lebanese security sources. ■
