ALGIERS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Algerian energy giant Sonatrach and Italian firm Tecnimont Spa on Thursday inked a 1.05 billion U.S. dollars contract here for the construction of a petrochemical complex in the eastern province of Skikda, Sonatrach said in a statement.
The complex's primary focus will be the production of linear alkyl benzene (LAB), a crucial raw material essential for the manufacturing of industrial detergents and cleaners.
This strategic project is intended to domestically generate 100,000 tons of LAB, with a view to reducing Algeria's reliance on imports and meeting the national demand for this essential ingredient in the detergent industry. ■
